‘I love her evil humour. Mags can be very, very sharp. You must never forget she was a great friend of Kenneth Williams. She can be extremely wicked. She has a very naughty sense of humour and can be quite frightening. If you were having to play scenes in Downton with Mags and didn’t know her previously, it would be terrifying because there’s no time to get to know her. I keep trying to channel her for this play (“What The Butler Saw”) because she’d be hilarious in my part.’

So we had the Daily Mail (and let’s be honest it’s a complete rag and makes up pretty much 99.79% of it’s content*) claim on Saturday night that Maggie was leaving Downton. Now Carnival Films who make the show say it’s not true but added to the article is this “Ms. Smith’s representatives at Independent Talent Group in London declined to comment.”. (Source)

I think I’m going to go with nothing is certain until the lady herself says it.

*I’m being overly generous with that content percentage.

Okay, so the source is the Daily Mail Fail, which is notorious for utter crap, but I have to say if true then coming after the rude comments from Rebecca Eaton then it’s a good decision. Maggie deserves better than a show who apparently has a producer who has no concept of what a legend and talent Maggie is, and dare I say it, she’s been criminally underused. Also this phrase “She thinks that three series is enough and she wants to get back to the stage and big screen.” may be be the most wonderful thing EVER!

More than twenty four hours later and I still find myself wishing some form of dysentery on Rebecca Eaton. Not very classy of me I know, but then again she was lacking any class whatsoever in what she said about Maggie.

Am I the only one who thinks Rebecca Eaton from PBS should have kept her mouth shut? I’ll admit that I’m so biased towards Maggie that I doubt I would care if she killed Shetland ponies for fun, indeed I might well cheer her on such is my adoration level for her, but the damn tone of that interview Eaton gave was just a bit, I think the word is disrespectful. Dear Ms Eaton, Maggie is the star of the show. The size of her part might not be that big but Maggie is the reason I dare say the majority of people tune in; if she’s “difficult”, keep it to yourself because the show needs her more than she needs the show. If she regularly kicks the dogs, keep it to yourself. If she carries a gun and threatens to blow brains out if her tea is cold, keep it to yourself. She’s a legend and I think she’s earned her right to do things her way.
